Left Pa today at 1am and arrived on island around 9:15am.
Met up with some friends that are visiting from Ireland. (My wife is an Irish National) We don't get into our house till Sunday and decided to do our pre-visit down South this year and are staying at the Hatteras Motel in Buxton. decent place, roomy and clean. Immediately drove to the point to see Shelly Island. I didn't take the opportunity to fish, but did persuade a gentleman to shuttle myself and family out there on his kayak for a few cold beverages. Turns out he's a retired Navy Chief and we got a good laugh when he discovered I was a Marine. I immediately went and found the WWII "Bomb" that made the news today and wasn't to impressed with all the hype. Toured the rest of the island and as I was making my way back with an arm full of conch shells I was interviewed by a Channel 12 news team out of Richmond. I'll more than likely be on the newscast a week from this Monday. I'll be the good looking bald guy with a 10 year old Toby Keith hat on holding a bunch of shells.
I did fish for about 1/2 hr in front of the hotel (not a very good spot) but did manage to catch a nice size Croaker on some bait that I brined earlier in the week (will start that new discussion "Brining Bait" later)
Hope to fish tomorrow at the point, since its been reopened.
ate at a little bar called the Lighthouse Sports Bar. We were the only Visitors there and a few local bikers, service was average but food was very good and fairly priced
