Beach Fishing Report

Headed down to South Nags Head next Thursday for a few days then onto Rodanthe/Salvo/Waves for the following week. Beach fishing when I was there in early June was a bit of a grind but successful. I'll probably just hang out and eat and drink at the OBX Pier (Fishheads) early on then hit the beach down south. I was following the Captains Reports, but sounded like the weather was not cooperating. Has anyone heard or been fishing in that area? Anything in particular working right now?
Also, if beach is slow might want to take kids on a 1/2 day Sound Charter. Something easy (no frills); is there anyone that runs right out of the Rodanthe/Salvo/Waves area? Where I don't have to drive to Hatteras or back to main island.
