surf fishing line & gear

I will be heading down to South Nags Head in early August. I need to get my surf reels re-strung. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what type of line & pound test to use and if there are certain bottom rigs that seem to work best? (I've used 15-20# test in the past and that seemed to work fine.)
Also, what are some good tackle shops in the South Nags Head area. Thanks!
