Well Bradley, You must have a fishing license to fish anywhere now in North Carolina. I am not sure about the private pond issue though. I think the land owner just as a private pier owner can have a blanket license that covers those whom fish these areas. I would never just jump and start fishing somewhere without finding out who owned the area or pond. Plus pay attention for most of these little areas have posted signs that prohibit fishing. In brackish water you can fish for just about anything. Up on the Roanoke River in Weldon, North Carolina, I took my niece fishing which should be strictly fresh water but the stripers make a run up on this river from the ocean to spawn. Well anyway Rebecka caught a 22 inch flounder up there. What a surprise that was to me for it was something I had heard of but had never seen before. Mainly fresh water ponds could have about anything in them depending if they had been stocked or someone had turned fish loose in them. Mainly in ponds you can find Catfish, crappie, perch, or just about anything. Remember your license as well as permission and read and look for any signs that may have the properties posted. Also respect those area greatly by leaving it the way you found it which hopefully is liter free. Happy fishing and keep a tight line, Debbie
