What a memory and historical pic collection you have.
Yes that's the 1 and only 1.
Pic taken aside from 15 minute video that son put "Jaws" music to. Big crowd watchin this Capt's cobia fight on Waves beach. Seems like light years ago.
Just found bout 1000 pics from Northern beaches 1991 - 2000. Takin em to Waves in June for rainy day. Kids - will tease each other, grandkids will have better idea of what the Outer Banks was like back before all the building/rape of the land. In the early years, there were no cottages that fronted 12...only the subdivisions. Olde Duck Beach Rd. only 25% developed. Waves maybe 12 cottages to a block. Guarded gate across 12 north of Sanderling - no rental lease - no go. Horses in the yards and on the beach, pitch dark at night, spiders as big as mice, bobcats, Whalehead Club restoration not yet considered,(was an awesome place before site turned into tourist area), cottages w/ no phones or TV's (how did we make it??), 50+ catch in surf morning and nite, crabs literally ran out of water and up strings to be netted (no joke), no grocery stores on Northern beaches...just a Wink's and a Wee Winks w/ few groceries, gas and a pay phone. Currituck Light open and "free". Corolla business district was Wee Winks, Riggs Realty and Post office. Corolla of today - a pipe dream. Cottage doors, cars, never locked. Kids could go out alone after dark, drugs were aspirin and Alka-Seltzer, they found their 1st boyfriends and girlfriends that returned year after year. Have said it here before, simpler times, better times, times that will never return. Just the memories and pics remain of the beauty that was. (Phew...haven't been in that "way back machine" for quite a while).
