About the puppy drum, it would be nice for the Outer Banks for get several days of a good smooth south west wind to help bring the puppy drum up. I am expecting to hear of a few being caught this week or next for they really start showing up good here during the first week or two in March. I don't do a lot of puppy drum fishing for I usually only fish for ones I like to keep and eat. The surf on the weekend was bad mainly due to high winds, what else! King just posted a excellent Puppy drum rig site which helps you make your own rig. As too bait, I prefer cut bait any day but I also use some lures but I have never had sucess with using lures in the surf because you really have to twitch them along the bottom of the ocean and thats hard to do surf fishing. If you chose to use lures and your not going to be surf fishing then get some white grubs with a lead head and use the twitch method of fishing these grubs just as you would do the lures. I know your next question is what type of cut bait, well on the Outer Banks we use a great deal of fresh or frozen mullet and I have even used fresh blue fish cut into strips, and this you can get at any bait and tackle shop along the beach. I really like this site for some more up to date fishing in Ocracoke for like I told someone before I rarely fish beyond the Bonner Bride. Here is the site www.fishtradewinds.com . This site also has a interactive message board and the Sutton's who run this tackle shop and this board down in Ocracoke really have it going on. Always Keep a tight line, Debbie
