We were fishing south point on Ocracoke several years ago at that time there was a sand bar just off the point and a deep channel that run threw it at low tide it was high enough to fish off of if you had a way out.
Well 3 young people arrived in a Jeep with 2 kayaks and fishing gear two went out to the bar one returned for the other and they fish most of the afternoon retuning the same say , well about the time the young man returned to get his friend I see him get out of the kayak beach them both and take a paddle and go running up to the other end or the bar, I was thinking what the heck was going on until I looked up the bar a king mackerel had beached himself and the two boys were trying to knock it out with the paddles, they did manage to and proceeded to load it in one of the kayaks It was so long that its tail was almost in this guys chest when paddling back..
I never saw a king beach it self like that or did I see anything in the water that would have chased it up there but the boys were thrilled with what they had, they didn’t know what it was but were hoping it was legal .
I’m guessing it was 42 inches long Nice catch even if they didn’t fish for it.
