You know...maybe if he could get inside like he says it is possible I quess...and if it is true good for him....but I declare...it has been a brutal winter.....maybe if he was far enough offshore in the Gulfstream and the water was warm...that would also have helped....BUT...in the Gulfstream with all the northerly tide....in 66 days I truly feel that he would have drifted alot farther than Hatteras.
Numerous years ago a Oregon Inlet Charter Capt. found a backpack in a tide line 30 miles off Avon.
This particular summer we had a hard Labador Curent pushing south.There was credintals in the pack and the Capt. was able to track down the owner of the pack.
It had been knocked over board off the Statton Island Ferry in NY 2 weeks before being found........66 days with a 3 knot tide ...well I just don't know....glad he made it anyway
