Diver , if you ever want to practice up on sonar - reading them , settings , etc. you can download emulators from Eagle and Lowrance to learn their machines. You can do a whole lot with good sonar as far as finding bait , fish , structure and quick depth changes. Here at the lake where I Striper fish , they are a must have to find out how deep the fish are holding and what type of bottom they are on and if they are suspending in relation to underwater humps. On mine , you can watch a jigging spoon bounce on screen and see fish rise to it from a school. It's pretty neat. I wish I had a big fancy color sonar with an SD card so I could screenshot some of it to show you guys. Of course , it's a little disappointing when you see one come up and don't get a take , but it's still nice to know they are coming up for a closer look.
They've come a long , long way from the paper sonar "scroll machines" I learned on.
