Yellow Summer Squash

I've got 12 yellow straight neck summer squash plants and the deer didn't like them, I think because the back sides of the leaves, the stems and squash themselves have little thorns. I've been able to put a bunch of those up for the winter.
I pick the squash kind of small so they won't be tough, rub off any thorns while washing them in hot water as hot as I can stand then slice them up in 1/4 inch slices, pack a plastic ziplock bag full and freeze.
My way of cooking those is fried up in pan on top of the stove with a stick of butter and plenty of sliced onions, medium heat for about 20 minutes until they are mushy and look done.
