GA Coastal Fishing?

Hey gang. Heading for first fishing trip of Summer down to the Georgia Coast third week of July-going to be staying at friends' house on St Simons Island. They are not experienced fishermen. Anybody on the board ever fished that area, and have some recommendations on where to go for surf, bridge, jetty, creek/river/marsh fishing? I see there are free public piers on ST Simons and Jekyll Islands, and plan to check them out if not too crowded. Reports seem to indicate that fishing there can be excellent in Summer, but I've never been down that far and am unfamiliar with the area. Any advice is appreciated.
