I had originally planned to post no Cobia reports till June 15......BUT...due to the fact that the first big push of fish has gone by Hatteras....taking with them the bulk of the shiney,big headed "Cobia Super Heros" with them I felt like I'd go ahead and start putting them up.I'm not saying that it is over ...just the fact that alot of fish have gone by.We will still have some good fishing if we can get the right conditions..like light S/W winds,sunshine and clear water.These are 3 components that are vital for things to go your way as far as seeing them.
Well the Cobia season this year started out alot better than the one last year.Last year we went 9 trips before we ever saw one....9 long freaking days of staring aimlessly at fishless water.
This year we bagged the first one within 2 hours on the first trip!!The fishing was very consistant while they were going by.The first fish was a "mighty" 28 pouder caught by Larry Gray of Gray's Department store on the beach.
Larry and I have fished together for a long,long time and he is by far the #1 Cobia Killer in NC.He has the patience that it takes to be successful....My God he went 9 days last year without seeing one at the start of the season.
Anyway it has been a good season so far and hopefully we will be getting some decent weather so that it will continue.
