try it in the surf?

I have had great fishing when using a popping cork with a 1/8oz jig w/cut baits, shrimp etc. hanging under it ,when fishing calm sound waters. Just wanted to ask if anyone out there has tried it in the surf. I come down a couple times a year for a week or so each time, and some times those calm seas @ sunrise get me thinking. Don't know why I never tried it, just set in my old ways. Anybody ever tried it ? p.s. God bless all our veterans for putting it all on the line for ALL of us!
