attaching your leader

I have 10-15 pound line on my open faced reels (medium rods)fishing for blues. In the past I tried attaching a short wire leader to my Gotcha but found that it twisted/bent and affected the swim motion of the lure. Somebody on the pier suggested using a heavier flourocarbon as the leader. I picked up some 25 pound material for leader but was considering attaching the leader using a swivel to counter any line twist. Do you suggest that or leaving out the swivel? If I should leave out the swivel, what knot do you prefer for attaching the two lines? I anticipate using Gotchas or Hopkins lures for my upcoming Oct trip. Can't wait...
