george, i like to fish for specks too. i find that the fish tend to spread out more in warm weather and begin to pile up in spots as things cool down. i like orange and red 1/4 and 3/8oz leadhead jigs with chartruese (sp?) and bright green grubtails, but i'll try all kinds of color combinations. also, a black or deep purple mirrolure is deadly for big trout, pre-dawn, as water temps cool. i like an 8' rod, light, graphite with fast taper in case i get into something with shoulders like a pup or black drum. i'll start out in gray light and sit on a good piece of water until the sun comes up. if no or slow, i'll start gradually working the shoreline tossing soft plastics. i like to travel light, keeping everything in my pocket as i 'summer stroll'. i get everything i need pre-beach at 'stop'n shop'.
