fishing for speckled trout

I want to fish for speckled trout. I have read that Berkley's Gulp Shrimp are the best. Can anyone tell me what color to purchase and what type of weight? I'm not sure which one to purchase. The exposed jig head or one that is hidden by sliding inside of the artifical bait. Also what tackle shop carries these item so that I may purchase them? And is there a favorite pier or bridge to fish from?
